Taking the Leap: Why I Left My Job and Chose a Life True to Myself

In my latest episode of the Third Power Life Podcast, I unveiled a significant life change: I quit my job. The transition came with a mixture of feelings, from exhilaration to fear, but overall, it felt right. I chose to follow a path true to myself, a step that many of us hesitate to take in life. Tune into my journey of self-discovery and the reasons behind my decision on YouTube or via the Third Power Life Podcast wherever you listen to podcasts.

The choice to leave my job was largely driven by the desire to live authentically, something that resonated deeply within me after reading a study by Bronnie Ware titled "Regrets of the Dying." The number one regret among dying individuals was, "I wish I had the courage to live a life true to myself, not the life others expected of me." It struck a chord. How often do we mold ourselves into who we think others want us to be, instead of being true to ourselves? This realization was a significant factor in my decision, and it made me reflect on my work-life balance, leading to the conclusion that I was working too hard.

The corporate world can be relentless, and it often leads to an unhealthy work-life balance. In my past, I have experienced weeks where I worked for 140 hours - a practice that is neither sustainable nor fulfilling. This prompted me to reflect on the second regret that was highlighted in Ware's study: "I wish I hadn't worked so hard." Working hard is one thing, but losing oneself in the process is another. I decided to set limits on my work and align my professional life with my personal desires and needs.

Now, I am at a juncture in my life where I am genuinely happy. I am working on my passion projects and investing time and energy into things that make me feel alive. I am developing a survey to help you identify where you stand on the drifter to Commander Continuum. Whether you're a drifter, a seeker, a navigator, or a warrior, this Commander Survey can provide valuable insights into your personal journey.

In essence, the decision to quit my job was about honoring my true self and achieving a better work-life balance. It was about working smarter, not harder, and allowing myself the freedom to follow my passion. My journey is proof that it's never too late to take command of your life and align it with your true purpose. And, in my case, this alignment has led to a profound sense of happiness and fulfillment. It is my invitation to you all: have the courage to live a life true to yourself, not what others expect. Don't work so hard. Find something that's play. Express your feelings. Stay in touch with your friends, and let yourself be happy. Live your life to the third power.
